TIMES JEMBER, CIREBONMiracle Fruit might have not been becomes a familiar name of fruit in Indonesia. Yet, little did you know this fruit believe to have tremendous healing properties for our body.  

In some countries, this fruit was also called miracle berry. It is a native fruit to West Africa. This fruit known to be able to make sour foods taste sweet. The fruit is red in color, and might little bit look like coffee berry.   

“I found out about this food from a friend 5 years ago. And I’m interested to this fruit for its exotic and one rare fruit in tropical country,” Nurzaman, the owner of a florist at jalan Ir. Soekarno, Kecomberan, Talun, Cirebon, West Java said on Monday (24/8/2020).

This plant has been quiet popular recently. Nurzaman said that he could sell around 50 plants of miracle fruit in a month. He charges his customers for IDR 100 K per each.

The miracle fruit plant grows as a dense shrub or small tree, usually not more than 5.5 meters (18 feet) in height in the wild and generally smaller when cultivated. It will produce berries by the age of 5.

However, the miraculin contain in miracle fruit is banned in USA and Europe to be used as a low-calorie or noncaloric sweetener for use by diabetics and dieters (study said). Yet, Japan has approved miraculin as food additive and the purchase of powdered and whole fruits is legal in most places including Indonesia.
